Case Studies
The proof of a successful project is demonstrated in the final product produced. Avnet Embedded's proven track record includes digital signage projects with the following companies:
ROLAND
Roland is renowned around the world for their premium quality musical instruments – pianos, keyboards, drums & percussion, guitar & bass and production & PC music accessories.
Roland has over 70 stores in the UK with DVD players that deliver signage to screens installed in different parts of each shop. They show product information and features. With so many DVD players, the logistics of sending new content on DVD was proving to be a challenge.
Avnet Embedded demonstrated the benefits of adopting and upgrading to a digital signage solution that would allow new content to be sent over the network from Roland’s HQ in Swansea to any zone in any store. In fact, the simple to use Content Management System uses a web based interface so it would allow the players and content to be controlled from anywhere in the world. This reduced service time too as the network players status is reported online so it would become easy to identify if a player had developed a fault and it could be rebooted remotely.
This system would also allow campaigns and playlists to be scheduled in advance for promotions and events held in the stores which would have been a time consuming exercise if updated manually via DVD.
The network players that Avnet Embedded recommended were Instore Screen DS720 which would provide HD playback up to 720P and includes the Content
Management System Software. The players were used in addition to video splitters to deliver content to the existing screen estate. However in addition some newer display stands were commissioned by Roland with Foresta and
Planet X branding which housed professional grade 32” Open Frame monitors from Chi Lin Technology.
"Clearly the benefits of digital signage over paper/static signage are numerous - animation, flexibility and audio capabilities to name a few,” said Corin Birchall, Roland’s UK Operations Manager. “RUK had already ventured into this arena, although through a cumbersome DVD route. The benefits to us therefore have been the speed in which we can respond to the market; designing a campaign,
distributing and having it run across all the UK sites - same day if necessary. The ability to be able to customise, localise and schedule the playlists of content across individual sites - in a matter of seconds - has ensured we are maximising our in-store marketing based on local needs.”
ESPRIT DIGITAL
Situated next to the Parliament of Norway and a short walk from the Kings Palace with some of the Oslo’s most upscale retailers, Stortinget Metro Station is an obvious choice for a DOOH network.
92 x 32” synchronised Digital Escalator Panels (DEPs) have recently been installed by Esprit Digital, the company that invented the product, in a fully managed solution from design through implementation to ongoing maintenance backed up by a 5 year warranty.
Øyvind Markussen, Managing Director of JCDecaux Norway commented “It’s not every day a new outdoor poduct comes to the country. We are very proud to launch Digital Escalator Panels, DEPs, in Parliament subway station. We have received a very good esponse from the market on our investment and it will be particularly exciting to see more tactical use of outdoor advertising. The new creative ways this mdium can be exploited are very interesting. Clients have the opportunity to sharpen the message of the campaign, and take their message one step further than the static posters. Here relevance is the key to good communication. We believe that advertisers on the DEP will be a mix of local and national advertisers.”
Peter Livesey, Managing Director of Esprit Digital, was learly excited by the first deployment of Esprit’s DEP’s outside of the UK. “This award-winning format has been a commercial success in London with 20 stations on the Underground and at Heathrow Airport, generating extraordinary income multiples over traditional paper formats”.
Stortinget Station at Oslo Metro installed 92 x 32” LCD synchronised panels in IP65/Section 12 fire-rated enclosures with anti-vandal glass, internal power
supplies and high-spec PC’s, integrated cooling engines and remote temperature sensors.
Avnet Embedded worked closely with Esprit Digital to specify the embedded PC hardware and professional AUO Public Information Display (PID) panels that were most suitable for use in this environment.
