JTI / Camel
Japan Tobacco International (JTI) is the international tobacco business of Japan Tobacco, the world’s third largest industry player within the tobacco industry. JTI required a solution to considerably increase the brand awareness and sales for selected products. Following the evaluation of several different signage solutions, JTI Sweden chose to use Instorescreen LCD advertisement players, provided by Avnet Embedded.

This decision was based on the flexibility of design and the products ease of use. With this solution, there is no need for a l arge IT infrastructure investment that would also need to be maintained. Avnet Embedded worked with Instorescreen and fixture manufacturers from the beginning of the project to be able to recommend the best solution for each installation. Each instillation involved customisation of the size, colour and firmware of the products.

Several thousand of these displays have already been installed throughout Scandinavia in sizes ranging from 8” to 19” wide.

Chargebox

Chargebox is a brand of Box Brands Ltd., which has several partners and distributors in France, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Australia and is looking to extend its partner network in additional regions. Chargebox specialises in out of home charging kiosks which can be seen in various retail outlets, banks, mobile phone shops and hotel reception areas and provide the convenience of a safe location to recharge mobile phones. Inside the machine are chargers for all makes of mobile phone handsets, including the Apple iPhone, Blackberry, LG, Motorola, Nokia, LG, Samsung, Sharp, Sony Ericsson and Windows Mobile devices as well as other handhelds like the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

The machines were deployed in various locations throughout the UK and the rest of Europe. However, research showed that many people did not understand the service being offered and initial take up was not as high as expected.

Chargebox have since trialled the addition of a 15" LCD media player from Avnet Embedded to the kiosk with video content on the screens that shows customers how to use the charging kiosk. The results have been excellent, with direct sales uplift ranging from a minimum of 50% all the way to 100% uplift in some locations. This success story is a clear illustration of how digital signage can drive sales of a product or service. The next phase of the project comprises the installation of 100 screens on the kiosks throughout Europe and meeting growing demand from all the other distributors with a total of 800 machines in the field.
